Ashley Benson Ships… Emily and Hanna?!

On Pretty Little Liars, there is no shortage of couples to ship — in fact, we had a whole bracket tournament about it — but there are some that are more canon than others.

Among the popular pairings are Ezria (Ezra and Aria), Spoby (Spencer and Toby), Haleb (Hanna and Caleb), and Paily (Page and Emily), but star Ashley Benson, aka Hanna, wasn’t tweeting about any of those during the Season 4 premiere last night.

When a fan asked Shay Mitchell (Emily), Ashley, and showrunner Marlene King an interesting relationship question, Ash was actually the only one to respond. The fan asked, “Caleb is leaving Rosewood, Paige too can now Emily and Hanna be together?” Our girl’s response? “haaaa yes!!!!!” Ashley tweeted back.

Though she could be kidding, people do want Emily and Hanna to be together, so maybe she’s one of ‘em! We are equal shipping opportunists, so we’re not going to play favorites, but we do have our doubts that Hanna will rebound from Caleb with one of her best friends. But who knows!

“Pretty Little Liars” Returns Strong for ABC Family, Sets TV Series Record for Tweets

ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars,” one of television’s most unheralded ratings hits, performed very well as it kicked off its fourth season Tuesday night — standing as cable’s No. 1 series in key demos and setting a Twitter record in the process.

It also helped provide more strong sampling for new drama “Twisted,” which airs after “Liars.”

According to Nielsen estimates, “Pretty Little Liars” averaged a 1.3 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 — up 16% from last summer’s premiere — and 2.97 million viewers overall. It was television’s No. 1 program of the night in females 12-34 (4.1 rating or 1.85 million viewers in the demo) and cable’s No. 1 show of the night in 18-49, 18-34 and teens.

In persons 12-34, “PLL’s” 2.3 rating (2.11 million viewers in the demo) put it a tick behind NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” as the night’s No. 1 series on television.

And among all drama telecasts on basic cable or broadcast in recent months, “PLL” edged out ABC’s “Scandal” and “Grey’s Anatomy” season finales from last month to draw the largest 12-34 audience since the season finale of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” on March 31.

According to social media tracking company SocialGuide, the premiere of “Pretty Little Liars” became the “most-tweeted” season premiere in TV history, amassing nearly 1.3 million tweets by more than 482,000 unique contributors — surpassing the recent premiere of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” in February by 29%.

At 9 p.m., the pilot episode of “Twisted” averaged a 0.5 rating in 18-49 and 1.61 million viewers overall, also drawing the best numbers in persons 12-34 (996,000) and adults 18-34 (510,000) for the premiere of an ABC Family series since the launch of “The Nine Lives of Chloe King” in June 2011. It was up from the 1.2 million who tuned in when the show initially aired as a series preview on the night of last season’s “PLL” finale in March.

“Twisted,” which had been titled “Socio” earlier in the development process, focuses on 16-year-old Danny Desai, who returns to his hometown after killing his aunt five years prior when he was 11 years old.

Airing opposite “Twisted” was OWN drama “The Haves and Have-Nots” (0.5/1 in 18-49, 1.31m), which was up vs. last week by 2% in 18-49 and 15% in women 25-54.

Discovery’s “Deadliest Catch” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 2.83m) was cable’s No. 1 program of the night in key male demos.

ABC dominated Tuesday overall with Game 3 of the NBA Finals (5.8/17 in 18-49, 14.05 million viewers overall), which performed about the same as the series’ first two games. This year’s Heat-Spurs pairing continues to lag behind last year’s averages when the Heat faced the Thunder.

NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” (3.0/8 in 18-49, 11.52m) and “The Voice” (2.9/10 in 18-49, 10.66m) were the night’s top series in 18-49 and total viewers.

“Pretty Little Liars” premiere react: Keep your enemies closer

Welcome back to Rosewood, Liars! The fire might have been extinguished last season, but things are only starting to heat up in the season four premiere as the Liars join forces with Mona to track down Red Coat.

First things first, we find the Liars right where we left them, standing at Wilden’s trunk. And the big gasp-worthy mystery in the trunk is — drumroll, please — a pig? Yep, that’s a pig. Don’t ask me where it came from or what it means (other than that cops are sometimes called pigs?), but that’s what it is. More importantly, there’s another dead “pig” to worry about. Wilden. The not-so-clean detective was found having been shot multiple times, and it looks like “A” has set everything up to frame the girls. Shocking, I know.

However, there is a semi-bright side to everything that has happened: Mona is (at least seemingly) on Team Liars, and she’s ready to do her part. After taking the video out of Wilden’s car and therefore saving Hanna’s mom, Mona finally spills some secrets. Apparently, Shana hearts Jenna, both of whom are scared of Melissa. Lucas was the one who gave Emily a massage a while back, and Mona claims she recruited Toby when he went off to get that job in another county.

Wait, so at that point he was already with Spencer, yes? So if that’s true, do we think he really was just in it to protect Spencer?

In other news, Mona was not the one who pushed Ian off the bell tower, and the last she saw of Wilden’s car was when she parked it in Hanna’s garage. Do we believe Mona? I’m not sure. But I will say that it’s nice that she takes the girls to her lair. There, the girls discover the identity of the Queen of Hearts from the Halloween train. Not surprisingly, it was Wilden. But who was his accomplice (aka there’s a second Queen of Hearts)? Mona claims it was Melissa, but the video dies before she has proof. Someone erases all Mona’s files. Uh-oh. Someone has been ex-communicated by Red Coat, the apparent computer genius.

“Pretty Little Liars” Stars and Producers Reveal Season 4 Secrets

Jun 12, 2013

[Warning: Spoilers ahead for season four of Pretty Little Liars.]

Pretty Little Liars sure knows how to start off with a bang.

Season four has been touted as “the season of answers” courtesy of executive producer Marlene King, and she reaffirmed that statement at an evening celebration for the hit ABC Family drama at the Paley Center on Monday, revealing that viewers will find out whether Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is indeed dead or alive — and what actually happened the night she disappeared.

Though the stars and executive producers, including Oliver Goldstick and Joseph Dougherty, remained tight-lipped about season four specifics, the crowd was treated to an early look at Tuesday’s opener. The opening scene — which did not include the reveal of what was in Detective Wilden’s trunk for fear of spoilers — featured Mona taking a chip that held the footage that would incriminate Hanna’s mother. The girls, along with Mona, were then seen meeting their “mini me’s,” who all had creepy dolls representing each of the Liars — all thanks to “A.”

“It’s expansive,” Troian Bellisario tells The Hollywood Reporter of the new season. “There are so many new characters and new sections of the world. Instead of picking at the same couple of questions and the same kind of mysteries, all of a sudden, there is an enormous reveal of how much bigger this season is than the girls thought.” Shay Mitchell went so far as calling this season the “darkest” one so far, which means people will be “pointing way more fingers,” she tells THR. As Ian Harding tells THR, the new “A” makes Rosewood a far more dangerous place: “This season it feels like ‘A’ can kill you and everyone you love.”

The Pretty Little Liars gang revealed intel about season four (and even Ravenswood) to THR, including Caleb’s Rosewood goodbye, the status of the show’s favorite couples and a new bromance:

A happy ending for Hanna and Caleb?: Tyler Blackburn will be heading to Ravenswood later this year, so many assumed the Hanna and Caleb romance was done. Not so, says Blackburn. “They don’t break up,” he tells THR. “They have a solid relationship, so it’s actually heartwarming and interesting how they break off. It’s hard to explain. They don’t break up, but they do part ways.” So “Haleb” fans rejoice, the door is being left open. “It does” [leave things open-ended], Blackburn says, “and it allows for things to go in multiple directions.” (King confirmed this during the Q&A portion.) The final Hanna-Caleb moment (a la Casablanca) was filmed early Friday morning and Blackburn was visibly teary. “It was a little bit sad,” he says, even though he will film a few more episodes before leaving for Ravenswood. (Filming on the season was done out of order.) “I had a moment with Ashley [Benson] where I said, ‘This is real, huh?’ ”

“A” targets Toby’s soft spot: Toby has been a major character for the past few seasons, and yet not much about him has been doled out. That changes this year. “We dive into his past in a way that we’ve never gone in anyone’s past before,” Keegan Allen tells THR of Toby’s backstory with his mother Marion. “It’s really a soft spot, and ‘A’ presses that soft soft. It’s dark, twisted, sad.” It’s also known that Toby’s past isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. “It’s dramatic and shocking,” Allen hints, “and on a level you would not expect. It really adds a whole new layer to Toby that we all didn’t anticipate.”

“Pretty Little Liars”: What To Expect In The New Season?

Jun 10, 2013
posted by Leanne | with No Comments | in News

Pretty Little Liars is one of the most popular television shows, and it is set to debut its brand new season this coming week on ABC Family. Last season saw the girls Hanna (Ashley Benson), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Aria (Lucy Hale) and their nemesis Mona (Janel Parrish) pulled out of a burning house by a mysterious savior, which a few of the girls recognized as the dead, former Queen Bee Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse).

The finale to last season saw all the ladies gasping in surprise in the end. It was quite the cliffhanger, and many questions were left unanswered, but, in a recent interview, executive producer Marlene King told TV Guide that they will all be answered starting with the first episode.

King answered some questions about the new season stating that this is the season of answers. She said that fans have been very patient with the show and all its cliffhangers but that the premiere sets the tone for the rest of season four and far as giving the audience answers they have been waiting for.

King added that, this time around, Mona is working undercover and that changes things up in a fun and dynamic way. “Mona has (a lot of) answers and now she needs the Pretty Little Liars as much as they need her, so now she uses her knowledge as a bargaining chip to ingratiate herself back with them.”

As far as Allison is concerned and whether she is alive or not, King says that will be addressed in the premiere, but viewers won’t find out the answer to that question in the season opener.

There will also be some more insight into Toby’s sad past. We will get to meet his Mom, in a flashback, during the premiere. Some hints are dropped about trouble with that character; she dies when he is a young teen, fourteen or fifteen. Some insinuations of a mysterious death are put forth.

Spencer and Toby are back together and somehow she is able to put behind what he did to her. But A is not done with Toby and wants him to make a delivery so he can give him something in return. As the season moves on we will see if the relationship can survive all the secrecy.

King promises, “We’ve got a lot great new characters coming into Rosewood with answers, information, secrets, and we’re really most excited about giving the fans answers. It’s really exciting to know that people are going to finally realize if their theories were correct.”

Pretty Little Liars opens on Tuesday, June 11 at 8/7c on ABC Family.

“Pretty Little Liars Spoilers”: Hanna and Caleb “Don’t Break Up” in Season 4, Says Tyler Blackburn

Jun 10, 2013
posted by Leanne | with No Comments | in News

Like most Pretty Little Liars fans, we were upset when we heard Tyler Blackburn would be departing the series for the upcoming spin-off, Ravenswood. However, given this new intel on the supernatural spin-off, we’re more excited than ever to see Caleb enter Ravenswood! (Although, our Haleb-shipping hearts are still breaking.)

But will Caleb’s big move mean it’s dunzo for Haleb? Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Tyler at the Inaugural Oceana Beach House party in Santa Monica, Ca., over the weekend, and he dished on Haleb’s sweet goodbye, Ravenswood, and Caleb’s bromance with Toby (Keegan Allen), which we here at Wetpaint are now calling Taleb.

Wetpaint Entertainment: We know Caleb is leaving Rosewood in the Season 4 Halloween episode, but will Haleb have some sweet moments before he leaves?

Tyler Blackburn: Yes! We filmed one of them last night actually.

What can you spill?

It’s interesting because it kind of leaves the relationship hanging. I mean, we don’t break up so we’ll see where it goes.

Is there a possibility she might come to Ravenswood?

We never know! We never know until we’re told, and I have no information! But that would be great and I think it allows for that, the script allows for that.

Let’s talk about your bromance with Toby this season!

Yes! We had the best time shooting together because we had never shot together. We’ve done so much press together, we’ve done so many things together, but never actually shot together. We never got to act together, so we had the best time. We never stopped laughing from start to finish.

What shenanigans can we expect from the two of you?

Honestly, I can’t say a whole lot because I might give away some plot points. but we both have a lot of the same intentions as far as help. So we’re just trying to help let’s put it that way.

Will we learn more about Caleb’s past? Is that what brings him to Ravenswood?

You learn more about his past in Ravenswood, you don’t really learn a whole lot about him in PLL this season. You start to at the very end of his run on PLL.

What can you tell us about the characters you meet in Ravenswood?

Well, we all share a common curse. I guess you could put it that way. Ravenswood is going to have much more of a supernatural element to it. So it all revolves around this curse that we are all under. And we sort of band together in that way to figure it out. Everybody is different as far as who they are character-wise but we all have this shared sort of morbid thing that brings them together. Honestly, I’m so excited I think everybody in this cast is top-notch.

How do you feel about having to leave your PLL family?

I’m sad! I am sad. I only have a few more episodes left to shoot. It’s sad. it’s been a little over three years for me. I’ve grown so much and have gotten so close to the cast and crew, but I think that because it’s the same creator as PLL it’s going to start to feel like home pretty quickly. I think we’re going to have to shoot out of state so that may make it a little harder but actually I think in turn that will bring the cast and crew closer because we will be on location.

We saw Caleb go rouge last season and go after “A”, is he still in hot pursuit of “A” in Season 4?

Big time. It’s funny to me because he’s been shot! He’s been through so much, and he just gets right back up and keeps going. He’s really smart, and he knows it. I wish I understood what he has for Hanna because it’s like his driving force and he won’t stop until he figures it out.

Wow! We’re more excited for Ravenswood than ever! What do you think, PLL fans? Are you intrigued? Sound off in the comments!

“Pretty Little Liars” Hairstylist Explains ‘Softer, Yet Vulnerable’ Season 4 Look

Jun 10, 2013
posted by Leanne | with No Comments | in News

It’s pretty hard being a teenager, especially when your boyfriend is keeping secrets, you feel insurmountable pressure from your parents and you’re being tormented by the “ghost” of your late BFF. But that’s completely normal for the characters of “Pretty Little Liars.”

Over the past three seasons, we’ve been enthralled by the teenage drama of Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Emily Fields and Aria Montgomery. But it was a serious case of hair envy that had us tuning back in to “PLL” this time around.

Celebrity stylist Kim Ferry, who spent the last nine years working on “The Office” before landing on the set of the ABC Family show, gave the four leading ladies hair makeovers. Read on for the scoop behind their “softer, yet vulnerable” Season 4 look.

“I noticed that the hairstyles for the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ ladies have been a variety of youthful, playful styles,” said Ferry. “Their wardrobe and makeup have created excitement and inspiration for the fans, so when I joined the show this season, I aimed to do the same in the hair department.”

She explained, “The girl characters have been through a lot in Season 4 — ‘A’ is really wearing them all down so we are trying to keep that in mind, reflecting that in the ‘on camera’ hairstyles.”

Ferry created beach waves using large curling irons, wrapping one to two inch sections of hair vertically around the barrel. Then, she left to cool in a hanging position to appear as though they walked out of the ocean and let their hair dry in the sun. To help replace any moisture lost during the daily blow drying and hot iron styling process, the hairstylist used Natural Essential Healing Dry Oil to help nourish dry, damaged ends and calm flaky scalps.

“We were filming outside late at night, and the humidity started to effect on the cast’s hair, so I whipped out my dry oil,” said Ferry. “I placed a drop on my hand, rubbed my hands together and slowly smoothed the oil through the actors’ ends, lightly over the curls and won the fight against those tiny hairs popping up and being a distraction on camera. And it smells great, too!”

“Pretty Little Liars” Creator on Caleb’s ‘Ravenswood’ Move

May 9, 2013
posted by Leanne | with No Comments | in News

Pretty Little Liars has staged sensational surprises in nearly every single episode over the last three seasons, but the biggest shocker to date happened off screen as it was announced on April 30 that ABC Family’s recently announced spin-off was bringing Tyler Blackburn’s Caleb along for the Ravenswood ride.

Now, for the first time, PLL executive producer and Ravenswood co-creator Marlene King is exclusively revealing why Hanna’s hottie was tapped to front the new series.

“In terms of the mythology of Ravenswood, there is a reason his character was chosen,” King tells ETonline. “Caleb has an ambiguous past. He doesn’t know as much about where he comes from compared to the other [characters] and we’re going to use that as we unfold the Ravenswood story.”

Once fans got over the initial shock, thoughts — and Twitter trending topics — immediately turned to the following question: “OMG!!! What does this mean for Haleb?!?!?!?!” Turns out, Ashley Benson had the exact same thought after finding out her scene partner was packing up his laptop and amazing conditioner.

“I was so sad,” Benson recalled of hearing the big news. “This is the thing, I’m so happy for Tyler, he deserves it so much, but he’s like my other half! He’s just amazing. When the day comes to shoot his last scene, I’m not going to be able to do it. I mean, I don’t want to give him away to these other people. But, I talked to Marlene about [how Caleb will be written off PLL] and I’m excited for people to see that because I’m pretty happy with how she told me their story would end.”

So what did Marlene tell Ashley? You know I got that answer. “Hanna and Caleb are such a great couple and we’ve designed this beautiful Casablanca moment for them,” King teased. “Hanna really gives Caleb permission to leave Rosewood and, basically, go to this other show [laughs]. I hope our fans embrace it as much as we’ve embraced it as writers. That’s important to us.”

What do you think about the PLL plan? Sound off below, and be sure to check out the season four premiere, June 11 on ABC Family!
